Cordon Fruit Trees
Cordon fruit trees – also known as columnar fruit trees – comprise a single, upright trunk from which short fruiting spurs branch off horizontally. Properly maintained, they’re easily kept to just 50cm wide, making them perfect for smaller gardens, sunny patios and urban courtyards. In fact, you can fit two (or even three) cordon fruit trees in the space that you’d be able to fit one standard fruit tree. If you’d rather, you can even try traditional oblique cordon training, growing several cordons at a 45° angle against a fence or wall!
