Care Guide

Good Pest and Disease Resistance

The one main issue that affects Heucheras is Heuchera Rust. This disease shows itself in the form of small brown spots on leaves with orange pustules on the underside. Rust thrives in humid and crowded conditions so the best way to prevent ruse is to make sure that the plants have proper spacing and, if you water the plant, to water at the soil and try to prevent the leaves becoming damp. If you notice Rust on the leaves then it is best if you remove the affected foliage and dispose of it, preferably by burning or throwing in the bin (not the garden waste).MORE

Water Regularly in Summer

Water to keep the ground consistently moist during the summer months. During hot and prolonged dry periods this could require water every few days, especially when the plant is young and still establishing itself. Adding a mulch over the surface layer of soil will help to keep the soil more moist. It is also important that the ground does not become waterlogged. This will be a greater issue in the winter.

Full Sun to Partial Shade

Heucheras can grow in areas of moderate sunlight, including around 4-6 hours of dappled sunlight in partial shade but will also grow in full sun.

Any Average, Well-Drained Soil

Heucheras do well in any average, well-drained soil. If your soil is particularly clay-heavy and/or often becomes waterlogged then you can improve the drainage by adding in plenty of organic matter such as garden compost as well as some perlite or gravel.

Feed Lightly

Feed with a slow-release general fertiliser, or blood, fish and bone meal in spring.
