Yellow Star Jasmine | Trachelospermum jasminoides 'Star of Tuscany'

A thousand yellow stars on a sky of dark green

The Highlights

    • A profusion of tiny yellow star-like flowers through the summer
    • Sweet and gorgeous jasmine scent that radiates through the garden
    • Evergreen with deep greens that turns slightly bronze in winter
    • Fantastic plant to climb up a wall, pole, or doorway
    • Long vigorous growth makes it perfect for covering structures
    • Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

Habit:

Climbing
Trachelospermum needs little training as it is a self-clinging, twining climber and will cover the space effectively on its own. Young growth will need some guiding and tying-in to supports until it is able to twine and climb. After that, it can be left to scramble upwards, mound up and then arch downwards with a cascade of flowering shoots.

Care Guide

Excellent Pest and Disease Resistance

This variety generally has few problems with diseases. It can have issues with cushion scale when grown outside as well as mealybugs and glasshouse red spider mites with grown in greenhouses or inside but problems are rarely serious.MORE

Water Regularly

Water the plant regularly during the summer, especially during hot and dry periods and especially if you are container-growing the plant. During the winter the plant will need significantly less watering and you should allow the soil to dry out in between waterings if necessary (usually the rain will take care of your watering needs).

Full Sun to Partial Shade

You will want to plant somewhere the plant will receive at least 4-6 hours of sunlight everyday during summer and spring. This variety can handled some partial shade where it receives its light as dappled shade.

Any fertile, well drained soil

If your soil is particularly clay heavy and gets waterlogged often, make sure you mix in plenty of organic matter and perhaps even gravel or perlite to help improve drainage.

Feed Every Spring

Every Spring feed with a well-balanced fertiliser such as Growmore or Fish Meal.
