Water Hawthorn
Water Hawthorn (Aponogeton distachyum) is a partially evergreen perennial with elliptic shaped leaves and short racemes of small fragrant white flowers. Aponogeton float on the top of the water surface, their roots and stems submerged in deep water of at least 30cm and up to 90cm deep. Originating from South Africa this is a subtropical and non-native species that flowers in spring and autumn. More established Water Hawthorn are hardy throughout winter, however smaller plants may require overwintering indoors.
