Care Guide

Good pest and disease resistance

Slugs and snails can be a problem for Chicory. To prevent slug damage keep the area around the lettuces clean and dry as possible, especially during the night. Use barriers such as crushed egg shells or copper wire. If the problem is known then you can use specific slug-killing nematodes–make sure you read the instructions on the package. MORE

Water regularly

Water thoroughly in dry weatherMORE

Full Sun to Partial Shade

Chicory will do best in a position where the plants will receive around 6-8 hours of direct sunlight every day, but will also tolerate some shade.MORE

Fertile, free-draining soil

Will grow well in a mix of three parts compost and one part topsoil. MORE

Feed initially

Applying a nitrogen-rich feed such as chicken manure pellets when newly planted will help promote leafy growth resulting in bigger chicory heads.MORE

Pruning not required

No pruning needed.MORE
