Care Guide

Good Pest and Disease Resistance
Slugs and aphids can be a problem for lettuce. To prevent slug damage keep the area around the lettuces clean and dry as possible, especially during the night. Use barriers such as crushed egg shells or copper wire. If the problem is known then you can use specific slug-killing nematodes–make sure you read the instructions on the package.

Water Regularly
Full-sun to partial shade

Full-sun to partial shade
Freckles needs around 6 hours of sunlight every day. Partial shade during the hottest parts of the day will help prevent the plant bolting (running to flower and stopping leaf growth).

Rich, well-draining soil
A good-mix to use is three parts quality compost to one part topsoil. If you are planting into the ground then make sure you have added plenty of compost, epsecially if your soil is clay-heavy as the lettuce can rot due to poor drainage.

Feed Initially
Applying a nitrogen-rich feed such as chicken manure pellets will help promote leafy growth resulting in bigger lettuce heads. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0513/3428/3424/files/pruning_3x_4d3eaf73-f629-45e0-87a5-6f14f5f005fc.png
