Care Guide

Good Pest and Disease Resistance

Begonias can have issues with Powdery Mildew, Bacterial Leaf Spot and Vine Weevils. To defend against the bacterial infections you try to maintain good garden hygiene. Space the plants out adequately to allow for good air circulation so it does not become too crowded and humid within the leaves. Check leaves regularly for Vine Weevil infestations including small notches bitten into the leaves. Try to pick off as many as you can if you find them, including possible larvae. You can also use specific nematodes that will target the Vine Weevils and cause them to die if you notice a serious infestation.MORE

Water Regularly

Water the plants to keep the soil consistently moist. During hot, dry, spells this means watering the plants at least once a day. If the plants are to be used in hanging baskets you may need to water twice a day if the plants begin to look distressed during hot periods.MORE

Full Sun to Partial Shade

Plant somewhere where the plant will receive around 6 hours of direct sunlight every day.MORE

Fertile, Well-Drained

The best soil to use is a quality potting mix or garden compost which is filled with rich organic matter and drains water away easily.MORE

Not Required

Don't worry, this isn't a hungry plant so your food bills won't be going up!MORE

Prune Lightly

Prune away flower stems after the bloom has finished and give the plant a little tidy up in spring removing any dead leaves.MORE
