Care Guide

Good Pest and Disease Resistance
Basil can suffer from aphids and slugs and snails. For aphids, you can control infestations by spraying the plant down with soapy water or planting something such as Marigolds nearby that will attract predatory insects such as ladybirds. For Slugs and Snails, it is important to keep the area around the plant debris free and as dry as possible, especially at night as slugs and snails love damp conditions. You can use barriers such as egg shells or copper wire to surround the plant to prevent slugs and snails reaching the leaves.

Full Sun in a Sheltered Position
Basil needs at least 6-8 hours of full sunshine every day and will grow well in a sheltered position away from chilling winds.

Well-Draining
A good-mix to use is three parts quality compost to one part topsoil.
