Care Guide

Average Pest and Disease Resistance

Hostas can become targeted by slugs and snails. For Slugs and Snails, it is important to keep the area around the plant debris free and as dry as possible, especially at night as slugs and snails love damp conditions. You can use barriers such as egg shells or copper wire to surround the plant to prevent slugs and snails reaching the leaves. It is also a good idea to spray your plant with water which has boiled some garlic in it for around 2 hours. For more serious slug and snail control you can also use specific nematodes that will find the pests and cause them to die.MORE

Water Regularly in Summer

Water to keep the ground consistently moist during the summer months. During hot and prolonged dry periods this could require water every few days, especially when the plant is young and still establishing itself. Adding a mulch over the surface layer of soil will help to keep the soil more moist. It is also important that the ground does not become waterlogged. This will be a greater issue in the winter.MORE

Full Sun to Partial Shade

This variety can grow in areas of moderate sunlight, including around 4-6 hours of dappled sunlight in partial shade but will also grow in full sun.MORE

Fertile, Well-Drained Soil

You will want to mix in plenty of organic matter such as garden compost into the soil before planting and more every spring. If your soil is particularly clay-heavy and easily becomes waterlogged, add some perlite into the soil to improve drainage.MORE

Feed Lightly

Feed with a slow-release general fertiliser, or blood, fish and bone meal in spring. Hostas will also benefit from an application of an annual mulch in Autumn or Spring of either well-rotted manure, leafmould or compost.MORE

Put the tools down, no pruning required!MORE
