This plant will grow into a sturdy shrub with a bushy habit where the flowers hang off the side stems. Excellent coverage for borders and planters.

Somewhat Hardy
Will do well even in colder summers but cannot tolerate past freezing.

12 per 12inch basket/ pot or space 6 inches apart in the a bed/ border
A good rule of thumb when planting a hanging basket is to use one plant per inch of basket diameter - so 12 plants per 12 inch (30cm) basket. Strong-growing plants such as Fuchsias and Geraniums (Pelargoniums) require more space, so reduce to 5 plants per 30cm 12 inch (30cm) basket. When planting out in the ground, you can space the plants even further, as there is not such a need for a desnse display. Increase to 6 inches for most annuals and 8 inches for the strong growing plants

Care Guide

Good Pest and Disease Resistance

Begonias can have issues with Powdery Mildew, Bacterial Leaf Spot and Vine Weevils. to defend against the bacterial infections you try to maintain good garden hygiene. Space the plants out adequately to allow for good air circulation so it does not become to crowded and humid within the leaves. Check leaves regularly for Vine Weevil infestations including small notches bitten into the leaves. Try to pick off as many as you can if you find them, including possible larvae. You can also use specific nematodes that will target the Vine Weevils and cause them to die if you notice a serious infestation.MORE

Water Regularly

Water the plants to keep the soil consistently moist. During hot, dry, spells this means watering the plants at least once a day. If the plants are to be used in hanging baskets you may need to water twice a day if the plants begin to look distressed during hot periods.MORE

Full Sun to Partial Shade

Begonia's can do well in a full-sun position to partial shade and can actually tolerate more shade than many popular bedding plants. In fact, it is best to avoid a south-facing position as to much sun can burn the leaves.MORE

Fertile, Well-Drained

The best soil to use is a quality potting mix or garden compost which is filled with rich organic matter and drains water away easily.MORE

Feed Regularly

Feed every week during the growing period with a high-potash feed such as liquid-tomato feed until October for the best blooms. After October you should stop feeding so the plant can prepare itself for winter.MORE

Not Required

Put the tools down, no pruning required!MORE
