Know Your Plant

Supplied as:

5 Jumbo Plug Plants
Plug plants are small seedlings that allows you to skip the germination process involved in having to sow from seed.

Height on arrival:

10-15cm

Eventual height:

15-20cm

Eventual spread:

30-45cm

Time to first crop:

Flower colour:

Magenta, Wine Red, Daffodil Yellow, Daisy White and Purple, Red Orange
A range of different colours, all of which possess a stunning vibrancy. There is, like with every Antirrhinum, a hint of yellow on the tongue of the flower.

Habit:

Spreading
These plants will spread slightly and somewhat trail over the edge of hanging baskets, but, being an Antirrhinum, will not cascade very far down the basket and still possess some upright quality around the centre.

Hardiness:

Somewhat Hardy
Plant outside after the last frost and these plants will thrive fine throughout the British growing season and into Autumn and the first frost

Rootstock:

Spacing:

12 per 12inch basket/ pot or space 6 inches apart in the a bed/ border
A good rule of thumb when planting a hanging basket is to use one plant per inch of basket diameter - so 12 plants per 12 inch (30cm) basket. Strong-growing plants such as Fuchsias and Geraniums (Pelargoniums) require more space, so reduce to 5 plants per 30cm 12 inch (30cm) basket. When planting out in the ground, you can space the plants even further, as there is not such a need for a desnse display. Increase to 6 inches for most annuals and 8 inches for the strong growing plants

Care Guide

Good Pest and Disease Resistance

Antirrhinums are generally resistant to many pests and diseases but can suffer issues with Leaf Spot, Powdery Mildew, Anthracnose, Aphids and Whitefly. To prevent these problems you should space apart the plants adequately to prevent overcrowding and tight, humid conditions. Water at the base into the soil, not on the leaves, and try to prevent the water splashing off of the soil and onto the leaves. Check the leaves regularly for any possible infestation of disease.MORE

Water Regularly

Water the plants to keep the soil consistently moist. During hot, dry, spells this means watering the plants at least once a day. If the plants are to be used in hanging baskets you may need to water twice a day if the plants begin to look distressed during hot periods.MORE

Full Sun

Antirrhinums need a spot where they will receive at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight every day.MORE

Fertile, Well-Drained

The best soil to use is a quality potting mix or garden compost which is filled with rich organic matter and drains water away easily.MORE

Feed Regularly

Feed weekly with a high potash fertiliser to boost flower growth.MORE

Prune Regularly

Deadhead the flowers once they have faded to promote vigorous, continuous flower growth throughout the season.MORE
