Care Guide

Good Pest/Disease Resistance

The most common Aubergine pest is Flea Beetles which create small little holes in the leaves which, if left unchecked, can cause significant damage to the plant. Other pests include Whitefly, Red Spider Mites, and Aphids. To prevent flea beetles attacking your plant you can try to cover them in a horticultural fleece, especially while they are still young. When the plant blooms, however, you will have to remove the fleece to allow pollinating insects in to ripen the fruit. You can also try planting them on a raised table or on your patio as the flea beetles will be deterred from having to travel so far.MORE

Water regularly

Full SunMORE

Full Sun

Aubergines need around 6-8 hours of direct sunlight every day.MORE

Fertile, Well-Draining Soils

Will grow well in a mix of three parts compost and one part topsoil. Beetroots do not like soil that is above 7 (neutral) in the pH scale and will prefer a soil between 6.0-6.8, so slightly acidic.MORE

Feed regularly

Once the plant starts producing flowers then feed every two weeks with a high potash fertiliser such as liquid tomato feed.MORE

Not required

Put the tools down! No pruning required.MORE
