Seed Potatoes
Bland, nameless spuds from the shop have had their chips. Why not grow your own flavour packed gourmet potatoes instead? Expertly raised on the grower’s family farm in Lancashire, our seed potato range is a tasty mashup of familiar favourites and top tier heirlooms. Sent to you at the ideal time for planting, they’re easy to grow and delightful to eat.
Which potatoes should I choose?
First, decide when you want to plant and harvest your crop, choosing from first early, second early or maincrop seed potatoes. Then go for the kind of potatoes you like to eat best. The smaller first and second earlies like Swift and Charlotte tend to be eaten as salad or new potatoes, with larger maincrops like Java and Golden Wonder working best for chips, mash and baking. Naturally any potato is a thing of beauty when roasted, but if you can’t decide, why not go for a mixed pack?
Growers' tips
To give your potatoes a head start, chit them (leave them to grow shoots) on the windowsill. When they’re ready, plant them in a sunny spot in open ground, patio pots or traditional potato sacks with lots of good compost or manure and watch them multiply! Don’t forget to earth up - our growers explain all.
Using your potatoes
Is there any way to eat potatoes that isn’t delicious? Bake them, mash them or go all Masterchef with a fancy fondant; rustle up a classic leek and potato soup, shepherd’s pie or creamy dauphinoise. And who doesn’t love a potato salad?
