Camellias grow exceptionally well in pots, which makes it easier to provide them with the ericaceous compost they require for healthy growth and blooming.
How big does it get?
The Camellia can eventually reach a height and spread of 2 to 3 metres, though it grows relatively slowly.

The Camellia prefers a sheltered spot in partial shade, particularly away from early morning sun which can damage frosted buds.
What kind of soil does this plant prefer?
The Camellia requires acidic, ericaceous soil that is rich in organic matter, moist, and well-drained.
How much watering does this plant need?
The Camellia needs regular watering, especially between July and September when the flower buds are forming, ideally using rainwater.
Will this plant need pruning?
The Camellia rarely needs pruning, but if necessary to shape or reduce its size, it should be done immediately after it finishes flowering in spring.
How hardy is this plant?
Camellias hold an RHS hardiness rating of H5, making them hardy down to -15°C. They are hardy through most of the UK, but their early buds can be damaged by cold winds and late frosts in exposed or northern gardens.
