The Fig Tree Gift
- The lovely lobed foliage, sweet fruits and highly compact habit makes this fig tree an excellent gift for people with small gardens, paved outdoor spaces or balconies.
- Representing various important sentiments, including patience, wisdom and success, the fig tree has long been a significant important plant in cultures around the world.
- Incredibly compact, this dwarfing cultivar is easy to grow in a container and is small enough for every garden, no matter how limited the space.
- We've chosen 'Brown Turkey' as the variety for our fig gifts, thanks to its hardiness in colder conditions. In other words, it's a tough cookie that produces the goods no matter what!
- The tree will be wrapped in charming hessian, tied up with a stylish bow and then packaged in a premium box (complete with a comprehensive care card).
- A lover of full sun, this plant is an ideal choice for recipients with south-facing gardens, where the tree can receive at least six hours of direct sunlight per day.

Will this grow in my garden?
Can I grow this in a pot?
Growing a Fig tree in a pot is highly recommended, as restricting its roots encourages the plant to produce more fruit rather than excessive foliage.
How big does it get?
When its roots are restricted in a pot, the Fig tree typically reaches a height and spread of 1.5 to 2 metres.
How much sunlight does this need?
The Fig tree requires a warm, sheltered spot in full sun, such as against a south-facing wall, to successfully ripen its fruit.
What kind of soil does this plant prefer?
The Fig tree prefers a well-drained soil and actually benefits from poorer soils or having its roots restricted, which encourages fruit production over foliage.
How much watering does this plant need?
The Fig tree requires regular watering during the growing season, particularly when fruits are swelling, but must not be allowed to sit in waterlogged soil.
Will this plant need pruning?
The Fig tree should be pruned in late winter to remove dead or crossing branches, and again in summer to pinch out new shoots, encouraging fruit development.
How hardy is this plant?
The fig tree carries an RHS hardiness rating of H4, tolerating temperatures down to -10°C. It is hardy in southern and coastal UK areas, but often needs winter protection or a warm, south-facing wall in colder northern or inland regions.
