The highlights

  • Thrives in sun with its base kept cool
  • Climbs beautifully up a trellis or wall
  • Group 1 - flowers from December to February
  • RHS Plants for Pollinators

Description

  • Aptly named given the bell-shaped nature of its flowers, this clematis produces stunning cream-coloured blooms in winter and early spring
  • This climber's evergreen foliage offers a fantastic visual contrast to the pale flowers, and looks lovely when densely clothing a surface
  • With a highly vigorous climbing habit, this clematis is perfect for training up vertical structures like walls or fences
  • Certified by the RHS as one of its Plants for Pollinators, 'Jingle Bells' is highly attractive to bees and butterflies
  • Pruning group 1 - an early flowering variety of clematis that doesn't require any regular pruning
  • Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Can occasionally be affected by caterpillars, aphids and earwigs - if you see them, they can be removed by wiping them off with a damp cloth and spraying the affected area with soapy water to prevent a recurrence. Reduce the risk of clematis wilt by making sure your plants have the correct balance of nutrients. Work in a generous amount of compost when planting, and mulch around the base of the plant in the autumn.

Keep Moist And Water During Dry Spells

Water frequently while the plant is establishing, and always keep the soil moist.

Full sun to partial shade

Clematis vines typically like full sun, aiming for at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. Their roots and base, on the other hand, prefer shady conditions to keep cool - use gravel, mulch, ground cover plants or a shade cloth to help with this.

Any moist, well-drained soil

This clematis will grow well in any soil type providing it's moist and well drained. If your soil is heavy or clay-based, then mix in some fine gravel or perlite when planting, to help with drainage.

Feed every spring

Feed at least once per year, and up to 2-3 times annually, with potassium rich fertiliser or rose feed to encourage better flower growth.
