The highlights

  • Delightful, pink double blooms
  • Pruning group 2 - light pruning
  • Full sun to partial shade, fully hardy (H6)
  • Flowers May to September

Description

  • A climbing plant with magnificent double blooms in blush pink shades, and a thin magenta margin skirting the petal edges
  • This clematis typically has two flower flushes; the first, at the end of spring, produces dreamy double flowers with approximately 40-50 elliptical petals each, whilst the second flush, usually occurring later in the summer on newer plant growth, produces (equally attractive) single flowers with 6 or 7 petals
  • First introduced by Polish clematis breeder, Szczepan Marczynski PhD, in the mid 2010s, 'Innocent Glance' is a versatile plant that can easily be trained up fences, walls or trellises
  • The deciduous foliage is a rich green and offers a lovely backdrop on top of which the flowers can really shine
  • Pruning group 2 - prune lightly to encourage repeat flowering
  • Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Can occasionally be affected by aphids - if you spot them, they can be wiped off with a damp cloth and the affected area sprayed with soapy water to prevent a recurrence. Voles and caterpillars can also occasionally be an issue. Clematis wilt can be avoided by ensuring your plants have the correct balance of nutrients. Dig in plenty of compost when planting, and mulch around the plant in the autumn.

Water Regularly At First

Water frequently when your plant is newly planted and getting established. After that, water during drier spells and make sure never to let the soil dry out.

Full sun to partial shade

Clematis vines like full sun, aiming for at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Their roots and base, by contrast, prefer shady conditions to keep cool - use gravel, mulch, ground cover plants or a shade cloth to achieve this.

Any moist, well-drained soil

Clematis will grow well in any soil type providing it is moist and well drained. If your soil is heavy or clay-based, mix in some fine gravel or perlite when planting, to help with drainage.

Feed every spring

Feed at least once annually, and up to 2-3 times a year, with potassium rich fertiliser or rose feed to encourage better flower growth.
