  • Pruning group 3 - loves a prune
  • Full sun to partial shade, fully hardy (H6)
  • Flowers July to September

Description

  • Clematises are among the very best climbing plants, and 'Pink Fantasy' is no exception!
  • Its large, pale pink flowers (which become darker at the centre) bloom readily throughout the summer and contrast wonderfully with the vine's lush green, deciduous foliage
  • A relatively compact clematis, 'Pink Fantasy' is perfect for patios, and even for training up an obelisk on a sunny balcony
  • Don't let this plant's delicate appearance fool you, because it can actually withstand temperatures all the way down to -20°C!
  • For information on pruning your group 3 clematis, check out our article, Clematis Pruning Groups
  • Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

If you notice aphids or capsid bugs, these can be dealt with by wiping them away from the leaves, or spraying the affected area with soapy water.

Water well when estabishing

Water your plant routinely throughout its first growing season, and particularly during hot, dry spells. Once established, your plant won't need too much additional watering (unless your soil drains very freely).

Full sun to partial shade

The vines of clematis plants typically grow best in full sun, so aim to plant your clematis in a sunny position that receives a minimum of 6 hours of sunlight every day. Their roots and crown, however, tend to prefer shady conditions that help keep them cool. You can use gravel, mulch and shade cloths to help achieve this.

Any fertile, moist, well-drained soil

Clematis plants (including 'Pink Fantasy') typically grow well in most soils, provided that drainage is good, whilst at the same time retaining a level of moisture. If your soil is heavy or clay-based, then mixing in a bit of organic compost when planting can be helpful.

Feed every spring

During the early part of spring, feed your clematis plant with a fertiliser that's rich in potassium, then mulch around its base with some garden compost to help retain soil moisture. If you're container-growing your clematis, then feed it every month through the growing season with a general liquid feed.
