The highlights

  • Large, gown-white blooms with magenta anthers
  • Pruning group 2 - light pruning
  • Full sun to partial shade, fully hardy (H6)
  • Flowers May to June, September

Description

  • If weddings are all about joy, then this clematis certainly warrants its name!
  • With its large, satin-white flowers and lush green foliage, 'Wedding Day' is certainly an impressive variety - it typically blooms twice each year, once in May, and then again in early autumn
  • Perfect for twining over a pergola or arbour, you can also grow this clematis in a large patio pot and grow it up a sturdy obelisk
  • This is also a great clematis for training against a wire trellis along a wall or fence you've got going spare
  • Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Clematis plants can be affected by aphids and capsid bugs, but these can be easily washed away with a soapy water spray mix.

Water well when estabishing

To help your clematis establish, water it regularly during its first growing season - particularly during hot, dry spells. Once established, your plant will only really need additional watering in especially parched conditions.

Full sun to partial shade

Clematis vines typically grow best in full sun, so look to plant your clematis somewhere that it receives a minimum of 6 hours of sunlight every day. Their roots and crown, by contrast, prefer shadier conditions as this helps keep them cool. You can use gravel, mulch and shade cloths to help with this.

Any fertile, moist, well-drained soil

Your clematis will be happiest when planted in soil that drains well but also retains some moisture. If it's heavy or clay-based, then amending the soil with some well-rotted manure or organic compost can be beneficial.

Feed every spring

Feed your clematis with potassium-rich fertiliser every spring, before giving it a good mulch around its base. If you're growing your clematis in a pot, then make sure to give it a liquid feed every month during the growing season.
