  • Perfect for patio pots

Description

  • If you like hydrangeas but only have a smidgen of outdoor space with which to work, then 'Little Blue' might well be the variety for you...
  • A dwarf cultivar, growing to just seventy-five centimetres (give or take) in height, this hydrangea offers huge ornamental appeal with its showy blue blooms and rich green foliage.
  • Ideal for container growing, 'Little Blue' is undoubtedly a fabulous choice for patios, terraces and balconies. If you do plan on growing this plant in a pot, use a compost that skews acidic as this will ensure the boldest flower colour!
  • While this might be one of the smaller hydrangeas out there, that doesn't mean it isn't tough. Far from it, in fact. With a fully hardy RHS rating, seriously sturdy flower stems and a tolerance to salty coastal air, this plant is far more robust than you'd think.
  • Top tip: Plant as part of a woodland garden scheme alongside hostas, ferns, astilbes and heucheras.

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

While generally healthy, hydrangeas can be affected by aphids, scale insects, leaf spot and mildews.

Water regularly when establishing

Water your hydrangea regularly throughout its first growing season, as well as during hot, dry spells once established.

Full sun to partial shade

Grows well in partial shade or full sun (provided you're able to keep the soil moist).

Any moist, well-drained soil

Grows nicely in most soils provided drainage is good and some moisture is retained.

Feed after planting

While established hydrangea plants don't typically require feeding, an initial feed with general fertiliser can be beneficial post-planting.

Europe

Meet Josh's trusted specialists

Start with a touch of continental sun

Over 99% of our plants are grown in the UK, but where that’s not possible, Josh sources the best specialist growers in Europe for the job. Think citrus warmed by Sicilian sun, topiary trained by Dutch masters, almonds nourished in the Dordogne and bamboo bathed in Tuscan heat. Our handpicked growers nurture these plants to maturity before handing over to our team in the South Downs, to toughen them up for UK gardens.
