The highlights

  • Gently arching, shrub-like tree
  • Small tree - grows to 3m
  • Gem-green foliage turns ruby-red in autumn
  • RHS Award of Garden Merit winner

Description

  • With its delicate, quill-like foliage and softly cascading branches, 'Emerald Lace' adds an abundance of elegance, grace and character wherever it's planted
  • Its deeply-cut, jagged leaves start out a brilliant, bright green, before darkening in the summer and taking on fiery red shades as autumn rolls around
  • Naturally small and compact in stature, 'Emerald Lace' works wonderfully as a shrubby feature tree in gardens where space perhaps comes at more of a premium
  • Alongside the spectacular continuum of colour, the lacy texture of this tree's foliage elevates it from simply a good tree to an outstanding one!
  • For added impact, why not plant some ferns, hostas, astilbes, tree peonies and camellias with your acer?
  • A deserving recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, 'Emerald Lace' is an acer that's known to perform very well in UK gardens
  • Our potted trees are supplied in EcoPots™. Eco pots use 70% less plastic and are fully recyclable, unlike normal single use pots. They flex and so produce less root spiralling and travel better in the post

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Acers are generally pretty trouble-free, but even the healthiest plants aren't impervious to the odd issue from time to time. Your acer might be affected by aphids, for instance. These can easily be dealt with, however, by spraying the problem area with some soapy water.

Water well when establishing

Water your 'Emerald Lace' acer regularly as it establishes, especially in hot, dry weather. Once established, it will only typically need additional watering during dry spells throughout the growing season.

Full sun to partial shade

Best leaf colour (which, let's be honest, is what most people get an acer for) occurs in partial shade, though your plant will still tolerate a fully sunny spot.

Any moist, well-drained soil

Acers like a soil that's nice and moist but that still drains well. From a pH perspective, these plants prefer a soil that's slightly acidic to neutral.

Feed every February

Acers don't necessarily need feeding, but an application of general-purpose fertiliser can be beneficial, just to keep your tree as happy and healthy as can be!
