The highlights

  • Beautiful top-worked tree
  • Small tree - grows to roughly 1.5m
  • Feathery, deciduous foliage
  • Fabulous autumn colour

Description

  • Few trees offer the kind of impact that Japanese maples do, and this variety is no exception!
  • Its foliage starts out a bright, almost lime green colour, before darkening in summer, and then finally taking on autumnal hues towards the year's end
  • Each individual leaf comprises multiple delicate lobes, leading to a dense, textured appearance overall
  • This tree has been top-worked, meaning it has a clear stem which won't grow any taller, on top of which the framework of bushy branches will continue to develop - this makes these trees perfect for smaller spaces!
  • A fantastic addition to any garden, plant your Japanese maple alongside plants like azaleas, anemones, irises and camellias for maximum impact
  • Our potted trees are supplied in EcoPots™. Eco pots use 70% less plastic and are fully recyclable, unlike normal single use pots. They flex and so produce less root spiralling and travel better in the post

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Acers don't typically encounter many problems with pests or diseases. Like many plants, they can be susceptible to aphids, but these can easily be washed off by spraying the affected area with soapy water.

Water well when establishing

Water regularly throughout your tree's first growing season to help it establish, especially in hot conditions. Once established, water your acer during dry spells in spring and summer.

Full sun to partial shade

For best foliage colour, plant your acer in partial shade. It will still grow nicely enough in full sun, however you'll need to ensure the soil remains consistently moist.

Any moist, well-drained soil

This tree will grow in most soil conditions provided that the soil drains well while still retaining some moisture.

Feed every February

Apply a general-purpose fertiliser towards the end of February just to give your tree a little boost (it will typically still grow well without this, however).
