- With its bright chartreuse (then rich yellow) leaves and vivid green stems, 'Shidava Gold' offers visual impact the whole year round
- A mutation (witch's broom) of the larger 'Aoyagi', this variety grows nice and compact, making it perfect for smaller gardens and even containers
- Acers like this one are easy to grow and low maintenance, making them a great choice for gardeners who don't have the time to flex their green fingers as much as they'd like to!

Good pest and disease resistance
Your acer is unlikely to be affected by too many pests or diseases, but some issues to watch out for include aphids, scale insects and leaf scorch.
Water well when establishing
Newly-planted acers appreciate regular watering throughout their first growing season to help them establish. Once established, your tree will typically only need additional watering in hot, dry spells.
Full sun to partial shade
You'll see the best leaf colour by planting your acer in partial shade (four to six hours of direct sunlight per day). It will still grow in full sun, however.
Any moist, well-drained soil
'Shidava Gold' will grow best in moist soil that still has good drainage.
Feed every February
Although your acer doesn't necessarily need any additional feeding, an application of general-purpose fertiliser in February can be beneficial.
