The highlights

  • An elegantly spreading tree
  • Medium tree - grows up to 6m
  • Single, light fuchsia-pink flowers in spring
  • Heavy cropper (use to make jams and jellies)

Description

  • With its delightful magenta flowers and pocket-sized tangy fruits, 'Neville Copeman' is a crabapple variety that should be on everyone's lips!
  • Alongside the fabulous flowers and fruits, this tree's stunning foliage rounds out the trio of Fs, starting out an intense purplish colour before maturing to green with age
  • While ripe crabapples can be eaten fresh, they're typically too sour for most people's tastes. Instead, they're usually stewed to make delicious jams and jellies that you can slather on toast, use to glaze meats or serve alongside hard cheeses
  • A good tree for a medium-sized garden, 'Neville Copeman' will look fantastic starring at the heart of any lawn, where its blossoms can really shine!
  • This tree is recognised by the RHS as one of its Plants for Pollinators, thanks to its huge appeal to bees and other beneficial insects
  • Our potted trees are supplied in EcoPots™. Eco pots use 70% less plastic and are fully recyclable, unlike normal single use pots. They flex and so produce less root spiralling and travel better in the post
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

May need protection from aphids, fruit tree red spider mite and caterpillars. It could also be affected by apple scab, apple cranker and powdery mildews. Be aware of fireblight.

Water well when establishing

As your tree establishes, water it well, particularly in hot, dry spells. Established trees won't need much additional watering.

Full sun to partial shade

Best growth will occur in full sun but partial shade is tolerable.

Any fertile, well-drained soil

Grows best in moist (but well-drained) soil with good levels of fertility.

Feed every spring

Give your crabapple tree a feed each spring with general-purpose fertiliser, just to give it an extra little boost!
