The highlights

  • Perfect for bringing a splash of colour to your garden
  • Bright green leaves turn purple, red and yellow in autumn
  • Red flowers in spring attract pollinators
  • Attractive flaking bark

Description

  • A wide spreading deciduous tree with attractive flaking bark, plentiful lush foliage and lots of small crimson flowers from late winter to spring
  • Grows to 8x8m and can be pruned smaller to fit any size of garden
  • Puts on a fabulous display of vibrant reds, purples and yellows in autumn
  • Hardy, low maintenance and grows in pretty much any conditions except total shade
  • Can be used as a tree or a shrub to form the backdrop of a mixed border or stand alone as a feature plant
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth.MORE

How To Grow

Excellent pest and disease resistance

Generally pest and disease free.

Water regularly

Water young trees regularly until roots are well established. Trees grown in pots will need more regular watering throughout their lives.

Full sun to partial shade

Position where the tree will receive at least 4-6 hours of sunlight every day during summer and spring. This variety can handle partial shade where it receives its light as dappled shade.

Moist, well-drained soil

This tree will flourish in any moderately fertile, moist and well drained soil.

Feed when first planted

After planting your tree add some fertiliser and cover with mulch to ensure all the water and nutrients get to the roots. Over time, replace the mulch and feed the tree with slow release fertiliser annually to help the plant maintain its growth and create a beautiful display of blossom.
