  • RHS Award of Garden Merit winner

Description

  • 'Garnet' is a medium sized deciduous shrub with a pendulous habit and cascades of lacy, jewel toned red-orange foliage that turns vivid red in autumn
  • Small purple flowers bloom in the spring, followed by bright red fruits
  • Grows to a compact 2.5 x 3.5m, making this an ideal choice for small gardens or even containers
  • A beautiful, low maintenance specimen tree with stunning autumn colour
  • Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth.MORE

How To Grow

Excellent pest and disease resistance

Acers encounter few problems with pests and diseases. They may be susceptible to aphids, which can be washed off by spraying with soapy water.

Full sun to partial shade

Position where the tree will receive at least 4-6 hours of sunlight every day during summer and spring. This variety can handle partial shade where it receives its light as dappled shade.

Any soil type except heavy clay

Acers are tolerant of most soils and conditions, including poorly drained soil. They prefer moist, fertile soil.

Prune lightly

Acer trees do not require a lot of pruning. Remove any damaged or diseased branches when the tree is in leaf or just after leaf fall. This will prevent bleeding, which although it is not detrimental, can look unsightly. When pruning, make sure to maintain an even framework.
