The highlights

  • Likes part shade but also grows in full sun
  • Excellent for woodland planting schemes
  • Blooms from June to october
  • Bred by Chelsea award-winning nursery

Description

  • The only swan you can ruffle without fear of a broken arm, this anemone is a must-have for any shaded woodland-style or rustic cottage garden
  • From bluish buds, the ruffled, semi-double flowers open up to display linen white petals (with a pale blue reverse) and lemon yellow stamens, closing into nodding, bell-shaped blooms as evening rolls around
  • If you're looking to improve your garden's pollinator presence, then this variety is a seriously solid pick
  • We love seeing anemones like 'Ruffled Swan' underplanted in the dappled shade of a garden tree (alongside other woodland favourites like bluebells and primroses)
  • Bred by Elizabeth MacGregor at her nursery in Scotland, 'Ruffled Swan' is a variation on 'Wild Swan', which won Plant of the Year at the 2011 RHS Chelsea Flower Show. In other words, you know this plant has pedigree!

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Not usually troubled by pests or disease, except for occasional problems with caterpillars, slugs and powdery mildew.

Water well when establishing

To make sure your anemone establishes properly, water it well throughout its first growing season. Once it has established, however, it will only need additional watering in hot or dry spells, or if you're growing the plant in a container.

Full sun to partial shade

This variety will grow best in partial or dappled shade, but still grows nicely in full sun.

Any moist, well-drained soil

Grows well in most soil types, but prefers a nice, rich soil if possible.

No feeding required

Although regular feeding isn't typically needed, provided your soil has a decent level of fertility, your anemone will benefit from a good mulching with organic matter in the spring.
