The highlights

  • Happy in both sun and part shade
  • Grows wonderfully up a trellis or wall
  • Bell-shaped blooms from summer to autumn
  • Incredibly free-flowering

Description

  • We'd open a bottle of bubbly in honour of 'Pink Fizz', no doubt about it! Its abundant hanging flowers comprise cherry red sepals, Barbie pink corollas and prominent stamens, emerging from lush green foliage - and these flowers? Well, simply put, they're stunning
  • This plant is free-flowering. No, seriously, it blooms like its (not so) little plant life depends on it. We're talking hundreds and hundreds... And hundreds of flowers every growing season
  • With tall stems growing up to a couple of metres high, and dense, bushy foliage, this fuchsia is perfect for training up a trellis or obelisk, or even against a fence
  • This is a fabulous plant to choose if you want to extend your garden's season of colour; it blooms from around June, often all the way through to November
  • A major difference between this climbing fuchsia and other varieties is that its flowers bloom along the whole stem (which is one of the reasons why it's able to flower so profusely)
  • A hardy climbing shrub (RHS H4) that will tolerate most British winters (down to -10°C), you can rely on 'Pink Fizz' to perform well every year
  • Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Fuchsias can at times have issues with vine weevils and rust. To combat vine weevil, inspect the leaves routinely. If you notice there are notches bitten off the ends of the leaves, then this is a strong sign of adult vine weevils. At night, you can go out and inspect the plant with a torch and, if you see any, pick them off and put them into a jar of water. Rust presents itself as discolouring on the leaves and orange, fuzzy-like patches. If spotted, you should prune away the leaves with clean pruning shears (washing the shears afterward) and burn the pruned leaves.

Water regularly when establishing

Your plant will benefit from routine watering during the growing season whilst it's establishing; after establishing, watering will only be required during hot, dry spells.

Full sun to partial shade

Fuchsias do best when planted in a spot that receives morning sunlight and some shade later in the day, as direct sunlight (such that a south-facing garden provides) can prove too much for them, particularly in the summer months.

Any fertile, moist, well-drained soil

Grows nicely in most soil types. If your soil's drainage needs improving, consider adding some compost, well-rotted manure, horticultural grit or perlite.

Feed in spring

Consider applying a balanced, all-purpose fertiliser (like Growmore) once every year if you notice that growth is poor.
