Description

  • Beautiful yellow berries that contrast wonderfully against the vibrant, red autumn foliage and provide much needed food for birds in winter
  • Cut leaf foliage which turns from green to crimson red in the autumn
  • Steeped in folklore, known as a protective tree against witches and believed to have saved the life of the god Thor in Norse mythology, the rowan tree is known as the tree from which the first woman was made, and legend has it that it saved the life of the god Thor by bending over a fast flowing river in the Underworld in which he was being swept away, managing to grab the tree and get back to shore safelyMORE
  • Compact size - 7x4m - Ideal for smaller gardens
  • Provides all-year round interest to your garden with enchantingly beautiful colours for each season Produces clusters of creamy white flowers in late spring, followed by yellow berries in autumn with crimson leaves, perfect for adding a splash of colour to your gardenMORE
  • Tolerant of pollution
  • Attracts native wildlife Sorbus tree berries are a favourite food of birds, providing a food-source late in the yearMORE
  • Our potted trees are supplied in EcoPots™. Eco pots use 70% less plastic and are fully recyclable, unlike normal single use pots. They flex and so produce less root spiralling and travel better in the post.MORE
  • Our trees are usually between 18 and 36 months old at the time of dispatch.
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth.MORE

What To Expect

Supplied as:

Bare Root
Our trees are supplied as “bare roots” meaning that the roots of the trees are established below the ground but not actively growing (dormant) between November and March. As bare roots are stored without any soil or pot, they would easily settle themselves when in contact with soil in your garden. Don't panic if your tree is not showing any sign of growth above the ground comes April, as its still in the dormant phase.
9L Eco Pot
This tree is supplied in a 9L Eco Pot, which is approx D15 x H30cm. Eco Pots use 70% less plastic then traditional pots and can be recycled easily. A 9L pot allows ample space for good root development and can support a good size tree.

How To Grow

High Disease Resistance / Average Pest Resistance

Not prone to many diseases in cold regions but prone to fire blight in warm areas. Prune away affected branches if this happens. Lichen will sometimes grow on the bark, and in rural areas Deer may eat the berries.MORE

Water during dry spells

Watering is only needed in long droughts. You can also water thoroughly during spring to ensure rapid growth during summer months.

Full Sun or partly shaded

Sorbus trees aren't to picky about their position - they will grow in open, sunny sites (6h+) or partial shade(3-6h).

Happy in most soils

Prefers well drained, acidic soils best

Prune Annually

Never prune during the growing season as sap will attract bugs and diseases, although any time of year is acceptable for dead wood removal. If diseased, then prune away affected branches.
