Purple Passion Flower
Passiflora 'Purple Haze'
- Showy, extravagant white and purple passion flowers (measuring up to 10cm across) appear in the summer
- This vigorous climber features saucer shaped flowers with lilac tinged white petals and lavender coronal filaments that have a thin band of white before darkening to a deep amethyst at their centre - striking doesn't even begin to cover it!
- Features semi evergreen, shiny, lobed, forest green foliage which helps add interest throughout the year
- The appearance of orange berries later in the year provides fabulous autumnal colour (the fruits are ornamental)
- Train 'Purple Haze' as a feature plant up a sunny, sheltered wall, or grow in a pot on the patio
- Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

Will this grow in my garden?
Can I grow this in a pot?
Yes, Purple Passion Flower can be grown in pots to help restrict growth; they may need winter protection if temperatures drop below 0°C.
How big does it get?
Purple Passion Flower typically grows to a height of 8 to 10 metres and spreads up to 2.5 metres.
How much sunlight does this need?
Purple Passion Flower needs full sun or partial shade, preferably in a sheltered spot.
What kind of soil does this plant prefer?
Purple Passion Flower prefers a moist but well-drained soil, ideally moderately fertile to prevent excessive foliage at the expense of flowers.
How much watering does this plant need?
Purple Passion Flower needs consistent watering, roughly 2.5 to 5 centimetres per week, to keep the soil moist, especially above 20°C.
Will this plant need pruning?
Purple Passion Flower benefits from pruning in early spring to remove winter damage (especially after temperatures drop below 0°C) and keep its vigorous growth in check, cutting back to a healthy bud about 30 centimetres from the main stem.
How hardy is this plant?
Passiflora 'Purple Haze' has an RHS hardiness rating of H3, meaning it can withstand temperatures from 1°C to -5°C; it is hardy in coastal and relatively mild parts of the UK but needs a warm, sheltered wall and winter protection in colder regions.
