The highlights

  • Grows nicely in sun and part shade
  • Ideal for training up a wall or fence
  • Free-flowering throughout summer
  • Beautifully perfumed blooms

Description

  • An abundance of deliciously-scented, starry white flowers with pale yellow centres in summer
  • Glossy, green foliage offers a perfect backdrop for the blooms, and adds year-round visual interest (say goodbye to boring fences, and hello to a sea of rich green, instead)
  • Plant near a seating area to get the most out of the plant's heady fragrance
  • A vigorous habit makes this plant an ideal choice if you want to quickly cover a wall or create a screening trellis to improve your garden's privacy
  • Pollinators like bumblebees and butterflies will be drawn to this plant's aromatic flowers
  • Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

How To Grow

Excellent pest and disease resistance

Doesn't generally have problems with disease. It can be affected by cushion scale when grown outside, as well as mealybugs and glasshouse red spider mites when grown in greenhouses, or inside, but issues are rarely serious.

Water regularly

Water the plant regularly for the first 12 months after planting to help it establish, and especially during hot and dry periods or if you're growing the plant in a container. During the winter the plant will need much less watering - usually, the rain will take care of all your plant's watering needs. Once established, this plant will be nice and drought-tolerant.

Full sun to partial shade

Plant in a sunny, sheltered spot (against a south-facing wall is ideal). It will still grow well in partial shade.

Any fertile, well-drained soil

Grows well in most soil types provided that it drains well. Consider working in some organic compost, horticultural grit or perlite to improve drainage.

Feed every spring

Feed in the spring with a well-balanced general purpose fertiliser (like Growmore). Feeding isn't always necessary, especially if your soil is already fertile. However, a yearly feed can help boost flower growth.
