The highlights

  • Campanulate yellow and purple blooms
  • Pruning group 3 - loves a prune
  • Full sun to partial shade, fully hardy (H6)
  • Flowers June to August

Description

  • Everything about this variety shouts joy! Its deep yellow flowers start out bell-shaped before opening up with age, while the reddish-purple stamens provide a seriously striking contrast
  • Vigorous in nature, growing up to 7m tall, this deciduous clematis is the perfect choice for clothing a boring fence or drab wall (use a clematis mesh or trellis to give the plant's petioles something to wrap around)
  • The fun doesn't just stop with this variety's golden flowers, the feathery seedheads that follow the blooms are attractive in their own right, too!
  • A deserving recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, 'Golden Tiara' has been shown to perform particularly impressively in British gardens
  • Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

If you see aphids or capsid bugs on your clematis, these can be dealt with by wiping them off the leaves, or spraying the affected area with soapy water.

Water well when estabishing

Your clematis should be watered routinely throughout its first growing season to help it establish, particularly during hot, dry spells. Once established, however, your plant won't need as much additional watering.

Full sun to partial shade

Clematis vines typically grow best in full sun, so aim to plant your clematis in a position that receives a minimum of 6 hours of sunlight every day. Their roots and crown, however, tend to prefer shady conditions that help keep them cool. You can use gravel, mulch and shade cloths to help achieve this.

Any fertile, moist, well-drained soil

'Golden Tiara' will grow well in most soil, so long as drainage and fertility is good. If your soil is poor or prone to drying out, then incorporate some garden compost when planting.

Feed every spring

In early spring, give your clematis plant a feed with a fertiliser that's high in potassium, then mulch around the plant's base with some garden compost to help retain moisture. If you're growing your clematis in a large pot, then feed it every month throughout the growing season with a liquid feed.
