- What you want is a tree – in fact, what you really want is two trees; one for eating (also known as dessert) apples and one for cooking apples.
- Put simply, ‘Bramley’s Seedling’ is one of the very best cooking apple varieties available today. Its huge fruits taste sharp when raw but mellow down beautifully when cooked into sauces, strudels, cakes and pies. It’s even been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
- If you prefer to eat your apples straight from the tree – and really, who can blame you if you do? – then ‘Braeburn Hillwell’ is a stellar option.
- With its rich red skin and delicious firm flesh, you’ll be able to harvest your own lip-smackingly tasty produce throughout the autumn, rather than having to rely on supermarket apples flown in from as far afield as New Zealand and South Africa!
- The icing on the (apple) cake has to be the beautiful blossoms these trees produce in the springtime. Seeing an apple tree wreathed in pink and white flowers really is a beautiful sight, there’s no other way to put it.
