Delphinium 'Paramo Black Velvet'

This plant might be targeted by slugs and snails. It may also be susceptible to powdery mildew and have the odd issue with aphids. For slugs and snails, it's recommended that you keep the area around the plant free of detritis and as dry as possible, especially at night; slugs and snails are known for loving wet, damp conditions! You can use barriers (like egg shells or copper wire) to surround the plant to help prevent slugs and snails from reaching the plant's leaves. To prevent downy mildew, avoid crowded and humid conditions. Properly space plants apart and get rid of any weeds. To combat aphids, you can pick away the bugs with your hands and also wash the infested areas down with soapy water.

Delphiniums like moist soil so make sure you water your plant regularly in summer so that the soil doesn't dry out. During hot and dry spells, this could require watering every couple of days.

Like most delphiniums, 'Paramo Black Velvet' prefers full sunshine (6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day).

Plant in fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Amend your soil with organic matter like well-rotted manure to improve drainage if necessary.

Give your delphinium a weekly feed with a liquid fertiliser (rich in potassium) from when blooms appear to the end of August.
