- Large, bright green, smooth lobed foliage which changes to golden yellow in autumn
- Large green-yellow tulip shaped flowers bloom in June and July
- This tree has a very upright branching habit and matures to a slender teardrop shape

While possible in a very large container (80cm+) initially, Fastigiate Tulip Tree is a large, vigorous tree and is not suited to long-term pot cultivation. It should be planted in the ground after 1-3 years.

The Fastigiate Tulip Tree grows to a height of 15 to 20 metres, with a narrow spread of 4 to 6 metres, although it can be maintained at a smaller size with regular pruning.
