- A truly lovely little tree, 'Brenelia'® provides visual interest throughout the entire year with its glossy evergreen foliage, fragrant white flowers and red-black berries in autumn.
- Perfect for patio planting, pairing up either side of an entrance or planting in the open ground in beds and borders, this Portuguese laurel is nice and versatile.
- Though it originates from the sunny climes of the Iberian Peninsula, this tough little species can easily withstand British winters, thanks to an H5 hardiness rating.
- Plant as part of a Mediterranean planting scheme, a formal urban garden or alongside other popular evergreens like holly and bay.
- The Portuguese laurel has been designated as one of the Royal Horticultural Society's Plants for Pollinators, indicating its benefits to insects like bees and butterflies.

A generally trouble-free plant, the main things to watch out for include leaf-mining moths, vine weevils and powdery mildews.
Water regularly while establishing
Your laurel tree will benefit from regular watering while establishing, and if you're growing it in a pot, then it'll need even more routine watering.
Full sun to partial shade
Grows nicely in both a fully sunny position as well as a partially shaded spot.
Any moist, well-drained soil or compost
Plant in soil with good fertility and drainage, but ensure that it retains some moisture. If growing in a container, use something loamy like John Innes No. 3.
Feed after planting
While established trees won't need feeding, an initial application of well-rotted manure can be helpful when planting in the open ground.
