Asimina triloba
- A large shrub native to the eastern US which thrives in the UK climate.
- Large, slightly drooping, elliptical, medium green leaves retain a vibrant green colour well into autumn before turning to a brilliant yellow.
- The pulp of the ripened fruit is a vibrant yellow that was once used as a dye.
- Cup-shaped, purple flowers blossom in spring, and give way to edible, rectangular, yellow/green fruits which mature in early autumn.
- The sweet flavoured fruits bare an uncanny resemblance to bananas.
- Fruits can be eaten straight from the bush but are also great for making ice creams or pies.
