The highlights

  • Grow in sun or part shade
  • Easily clings to fences and walls
  • Masses of starry flowers from May
  • RHS Award of Garden Merit winner

Description

  • A delightful star jasmine with star-shaped white flowers and shiny green foliage flecked with cream edges
  • Masses of delicate flowers carpet the plant's stems in May and June, producing an intoxicatingly sweet aroma that's strongest in the evenings
  • This plant's variegated, evergreen foliage takes on bronze and ruby hues in the winter months, providing added visual interest
  • An ideal choice for training up a wall - or over a seating area pergola to make the most of the fragrance - star jasmines are self clinging climbers, meaning they don't need additional support once established
  • A fantastic option if you're looking to jazz up an unsightly fence or dreary shed, or if you simply want to create a natural privacy screen for your garden
  • This star jasmine variety is a recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit - an indicator of a plant's stellar performance in UK gardens
  • Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

How To Grow

Excellent pest and disease resistance

This variety of star jasmine generally has few problems with diseases. It can have issues with cushion scale (when grown outside) as well as mealybugs and glasshouse red spider mites when grown in greenhouses, or inside, but problems are rarely ever serious.

Water regularly

Water frequently for the first 12 months after planting. During drier, hotter spells, your plant may require additional watering. If grown in a container, this star jasmine will dry out more quickly and will therefore need watering more often.

Full sun to partial shade

Ideally, you'll want to plant this star jasmine somewhere where it will receive at least 6 hours of sunlight daily during summer and spring. This variety can handle partial shade, too, however. Plant in a sheltered spot.

Fertile (or moderately fertile) and well-draining soil

Plant this star jasmine in fertile soil with ample drainage. It will tolerate slightly acidic soil but generally prefers a neutral or alkaline pH.

Feed every spring

Feed in the springtime with a well-balanced general purpose fertiliser (like Blood, Fish and Bone). Feeding isn't always necessary, particularly if your soil is already nice and fertile. However, an annual feed can help improve flower growth.
