'White Heart' Cherry Tree

  • 'White Heart' is a fantastic sweet cherry variety, boasting yellow-skinned cherries suffused with an attractive red blush, and creamy white flesh that delivers truly exceptional flavour.
  • In late spring, this tree produces glorious white blossoms that add immense ornamental value on top of the tree's significant fruiting prowess.
  • A fully hardy cultivar, 'White Heart' is well-suited to growing in UK conditions, and will be able to withstand whatever the British weather can throw at it.
  • In order to bear fruit, you'll need a suitable pollination partner (a cherry tree in group 2, 3 or 4) nearby, with 'Van', 'Kordia' and 'Regina' all viable options.
  • The cherry tree is recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society as one of its Plants for Pollinators, indicating its appeal to pollinating insects like bees and butterflies.

Uses

Eating fresh, baking, cooking

Rootstock

Colt rootstock (grows up to 4m)
Cherry varieties are usually grown by grafting them onto rootstocks. This has benefits for pest resistance, genetics and efficiency of propagation. Importantly, it also limits the height of a tree to a more manageable size. Colt cherry trees tend to only reach 4m tall, making them perfect for smaller spaces (or those afraid of stepladders). They can also be trained to a smaller size by pruning or by restricting the roots, through use of a smaller pot.

Spacing

4m
Plant four metres apart to allow for spreading.
