'Green Williams' Pear Tree

  • An English variety, also known as 'Williams' Bon Chrétien', with large, yellow fruits which are very juicy and full of sweet, rich flavour. Tasty eaten fresh but one of the best for poaching, too.
  • A strong, reliable cropper, 'Green Williams' is an early-cropping variety, producing its fruit from late August.
  • With a max size of 4x4m, this tree is grafted onto a Quince A rootstock. Rootstocks restrict the size of a tree to make it better-suited for the average garden.
  • Partially self-fertile (pollination group 3). This tree will fruit better when pollinated by another pear tree. Don't worry, in most areas there'll be a pear tree close enough to pollinate. Alternatively, you can always just plant another pear tree!
  • Our trees are usually between 18 and 36 months old at the time of dispatch.
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth.
  • Our mature trees are grown in Air-Pots®, the only type of pot to completely eliminate root circling. A unique design stimulates air pruning for a mass of healthy fibrous roots, which results in a healthy tree that will establish quickly in your garden. With each Air-Pot® made to last up to 20 years, we reuse them on the nursery and wrap your mature tree in hessian for delivery - but if you’d rather keep your tree potted, simply add an Air-Pot® to your basket along with your tree.

Rootstock

Quince A rootstock (grows up to 4m)
Quince varieties are usually grown by grafting them to rootstocks. This has benefits for pest resistance, genetics and the efficiency of propagation. Importantly, it also limits the height of a tree to a more manageable, specific height. Quince A Quince trees tend to only reach 4m tall, perfect for smaller spaces or those afraid of stepladders. They can also be trained to a smaller size by pruning or restricting the roots, by keeping in a smaller pot
