Wisteria floribunda 'Lipstick'
- The sight of wisteria's hanging, pea-like blooms in early summer is undoubtedly one of gardening's finest. This lovely variety, which also goes by the name 'Kuchi-beni', makes for a glorious addition to any sunny wall.
- Radiating a fabulous perfume, 'Lipstick' looks brilliant as part of a traditional cottage garden or Cotswolds theme. Grow it up and over an archway or arbour to really make the most of the blooms.
- The flowers are held against a backdrop of luscious green foliage, which acts as a great canvas on which the summertime flowers can really come to the fore.
- One of the great things about a wisteria is how architectural its woody vines look when bare in the winter. It's deciduous, but don't think for a second that that means it's not a plant with year-round interest.
- Like every wisteria plant, 'Lipstick' has fairly specific (but straightforward) pruning requirements; check out our article, Pruning Wisteria: An Expert Guide for more details.
