How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Generally very resistant to pests and diseases - can occasionally suffer from aphids, flea beetles or white blister. If you find aphids or flea beetles, check the leaves regularly for any possible infestation. If you see some, pick the bugs off by hand and spray the infected area with some soapy water. You can also plant a companion plant nearby such as Marigolds. These will attract predatory insects such as ladybirds that will eat the aphids. White Blister is a fungal disease which is best prevented by spacing plants apart well and watering at the base so that water doesn't sit on the leaves.

Water well in summer

This plant needs nothing more than rain water throughout most of the year. During hot, prolonged dry periods in summer however, you may have to give the plant a good watering several times a week. If the plant starts to look distressed and the soil around it is very dry, then give the plant some more water and check up on it the next day.

Full sun

This plant prefers a sunny spot with 6-8 hours of sunlight daily

Any well-drained soil

Aubrieta prefers fertile, well-drained soil but will be fine in any normal well-drained soil. If your soil is particularly poor or clay heavy, add some garden compost with perlite to improve drainage.

Feeding not required

This is a low maintenance plant which gets all the nutrients it needs from the soil.
