- Citrus trees are known for growing particularly well in warm Mediterranean regions like Tuscany, Crete and Marseilles, but did you know that they can also grow well in a sheltered, south-facing garden in Torquay, Colchester or Maidenhead? (Other place names are available.)
- Grown and pruned to the perfect size for container growing, these trees are easy to care for and can easily be moved indoors when the weather gets too cold in the winter months.
- Wonderful, waxy evergreen foliage, fragrant flowers and zesty, refreshing fruits make these trees an excellent addition to any courtyard garden.
- Fancy something a little bit more exotic? Our 6 tree collection features some less common citrus trees, including the truly unique (and utterly bizarre) hand of buddha tree – the definition of a head turner.

Can I grow this in a pot?
Yes, the trees in this Patio Citrus Collection thrive in pots, which is highly recommended in the UK. Keeping them in containers allows you to easily move the plants indoors or into a greenhouse or conservatory when temperatures drop below 5°C during the colder months. Plant them in a specialist citrus compost and ensure the pots provide excellent drainage to prevent waterlogging.
How big does it get?
It typically grows to a height of 1 to 1.5 metres per tree, making it ideal for patio containers and conservatories.
How much sunlight does this need?
It thrives in full sun and needs at least 6 to 8 hours of bright light daily, meaning you should move it outdoors in summer and keep it in a bright, cool room (above 5°C) in winter.
What kind of soil does this plant prefer?
This citrus tree requires well-drained, slightly acidic soil, so you should use a specialist citrus compost or a mix of loam-based compost and bark.
How much watering does this plant need?
Water freely in summer but allow the top 2cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Use rainwater if possible. Reduce watering in winter.
Will this plant need pruning?
Minimal pruning required. Thin out crowded branches in spring to allow light into the centre and maintain a tidy shape.
How hardy is this plant?
The trees in this patio citrus collection are tender (H1C) and will not survive UK winters outdoors. They can be enjoyed on a sunny patio during the summer but must be brought indoors or into a heated greenhouse before temperatures drop below 5°C.
