Care Guide

Good Pest and Disease Resistance

Your plants have been bred for the best possible pest and disease resistance. With a few simple precautions, you can defeat both! The most common issues for vegetable plants are slugs and mildews. For slugs and snails it is important to keep the area around the plant debris free and as dry as possible, especially at night as the slimy fiends love damp conditions. You can use barriers such as crushed egg shells, fine gravel or copper wire to surround the plant to prevent slugs and snails reaching the leaves. To prevent mildews you should try to prevent crowded and humid conditions. Properly space plants apart and get rid of any weeds. Water at the soil and try to prevent soil splashing from the soil onto the leaves.

Water regularly

Water in well when first planted. Vegetables need a lot of water or they may bolt, or go to seed. It's best to water thoroughly once or twice a week rather than little and often, as this encourages healthier root growth. In the height of summer you will need to water daily and never let the soil dry out.

Full Sun to Partial Shade

Your vegetable plants will do best in a sunny, sheltered spot with around 6-8 hours of sunlight each day. Most will tolerate a little light shade and even benefit from it on hot afternoons.

Fertile, well-drained soil

Mix in plenty of organic matter such as garden compost into the soil before planting. If your soil is particularly clay-heavy and easily becomes waterlogged, add some perlite or gravel into the soil to improve drainage.

Feed regularly

Most vegetable crops will benefit from a general purpose fertiliser added to the soil before planting out. For plants which produce fruits such as tomatoes and courgettes, start feeding them every two weeks once flowers appear, with a high potassium fertiliser like tomato feed. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0513/3428/3424/files/pruning_3x_4d3eaf73-f629-45e0-87a5-6f14f5f005fc.png?v=1613300930
