The highlights

  • Melt in your mouth pears
  • Loved by pollinators
  • Eat straight from the tree or poach in wine
  • Harvest from October

Description

  • This duo tree consists of two pear varieties grafted onto a single rootstock in a Y or V shape, and makes a great choice for gardeners who only have the space for one fruit tree (but who'd really like more)
  • 'Conference' is an incredibly popular, heavy-cropping variety which bears delicious, juicy dessert pears with excellent sweetness. It's also a recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit!
  • 'Williams' Bon Chrétien' is a variety with fruit as impressive as its name, boasting pears that not only eat well, but that also cook well in pies, crumbles and cakes
  • Pear trees are recognised by the RHS as one of its Plants for Pollinators, so you can rely upon your duo tree to bring more bees to your garden
  • Our trees are usually between 18 and 36 months old at the time of dispatch
  • Our potted trees are supplied in EcoPots™. Eco pots use 70% less plastic and are fully recyclable, unlike normal single use pots. They flex and so produce less root spiralling and travel better in the post
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Although the varieties in this duo tree are resistant to some pests and diseases, they may still be susceptible to aphids, fire blight and rust.

Water regularly while establishing

Established pear trees don't usually need much additional watering, apart from in hot and dry spells, but newly-planted trees benefit from regular watering during their first season (this helps their roots develop).

Full sun

Your duo pear tree will benefit from being planted in a fully sunny spot (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day).

Any fertile, well-drained soil

Pear trees grow best in soil that drains freely. If your soil is poor, then work in some organic matter to improve its fertility.

Feed every spring

Applying a high-potassium fertiliser at the start of spring will benefit your duo pear tree.
