The highlights

  • A graceful, upright tree
  • Medium tree - grows up to 5m
  • Delightfully fluffy, double, pink blossoms
  • Birds can't get enough of this tree's fruits

Description

  • Clouds of glorious, double, pastel-pink flowers wreath the tree in springtime, radiating a wonderful scent and attracting pollinating insects (like bees) in their droves
  • A medium-sized tree that can easily be pruned to keep smaller, ‘Pink Perfection’ works brilliantly as a feature tree at the heart of your lawn, or even in a large pot on the patio
  • In autumn, the tree produces red crabapples that birds can’t help but feast upon, making this tree an excellent addition to any wildlife garden (or any garden for that matter!)
  • Underplant your crabapple with shade-loving perennials (like hostas and heucheras) or spring bulbs (such as crocuses and tulips)
  • The tree’s leaves are a deep forest-green colour, ovate and slightly serrated, providing an excellent visual contrast to the flowers and fruits

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

May need protection from aphids, woolly aphid, fruit tree red spider mite and caterpillars. It could also be affected by apple scab, apple cranker and powdery mildews. Be cautious of fire blight.

A little watering when new

When newly planted, your tree needs a little watering at least once a month for the initial couple of months. Afterwards keep moist but well drained.

Full sun to partial shade

This crabapple tree loves full sun or partial shade in a sheltered location. Choosing a spot away from strong winds will allow all the tree's resources to go towards growing blossom and protecting its display.

Most fertile, well-drained soils

This tree will flourish in any moderately fertile, moist and well drained soil except for chalk.

Feed when first planted

After planting your tree add some fertiliser and cover with mulch to ensure all the water and nutrients get to the roots. Over time, replace the mulch and feed the tree with slow release fertiliser annually to help the plant maintain its growth and create a beautiful display of blossom.
