The highlights

  • Gently spreading with drooped branches
  • Ideal for small spaces, growing to 3x4m
  • Pretty shell pink, cup-shaped flowers
  • Blossoms in early April

Description

  • A small flowering cherry tree with an outstanding floral display
  • Large clusters of shell pink, cup shaped flowers emerge in early spring
  • Pale green foliage which turns to vibrant shades of orange and red in autumn
  • A stunning focal point for any size of garden, growing to just 3 x 4m
  • A vigorous and strong tree which is one of the only cherry blossom varieties to be chalk tolerant
  • RHS Plants for Pollinators - this tree is beneficial to bees, butterflies and other insects
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth.MORE

What To Expect

Supplied as:

Bare root
Our bare root trees are lifted fresh from the field, wrapped in a moisture retentive covering and packed straight away. You can be sure they will be fresh when they arrive. In winter, you can store for several weeks if kept in a cool, dark spot. Later in spring, when the temperature rises, you will want to plant within a few days of arrival.
9L poly-pot
This tree is supplied in a 9L Poly-Pot, which is approx D15 x H30cm. Poly-Pots use 70% less plastic than traditional pots and can be recycled. A 9L pot allows ample space for good root development and can support a good size tree.

Height on arrival:

120-150cm
Depending on the time of year, your tree will arrive at a height between 120-150cm.

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

May need protection from caterpillars and leaf-mining moths. Cherry trees are sometimes affected by silver leaf, bacterial canker or blossom wilt - you can prevent these infections by spacing trees apart well and maintaining good airflow through the branches by pruning out any that cross over.

Full sun

This cherry tree loves full sun exposure or a sheltered location, allowing all the nutrients to create blossom in your garden. Choosing a spot away from strong winds will help all the tree's resources to go towards growing and maintaining the blossom.

Any moist, well-draining soil

Adapts to clay, loam and sandy soil, tolerates chalk

Prune annually

Pruning in mid-summer may be required if affected by silver leaf. Prune in the dormant season (November-February) to maintain the shape.
