How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Can be targeted by aphids and caterpillars; these can be picked off, with the affected foliage then sprayed with soapy water. From a disease perspective, this tree can be affected by a range of diseases, including silver leaf, bacterial canker and blossom wilt.

Water when establishing

Established cherry blossom trees typically don't need watering except in hot, dry spells, receiving enough water from rainfall alone. When establishing, however, your cherry will benefit from more frequent watering (a good watering roughly once a week) for the first year or so, and even more frequently (two or three times per week) in the first few weeks post-planting.

Full sun

Plant somewhere your tree will receive at least 6 hours of sunlight per day.

Any fertile, moist, well-drained soil

This tree will adapt to most soil conditions but prefers fertile, moist and well-drained soil.

Feeding not required

Cherry blossom trees typically get enough nutrients from the soil without the need for additional fertilisation. However, an application of organic matter mulch each spring can help the tree going into the growing season.
