The highlights

  • A lover of full sunshine
  • Perfect for pergolas, fabulous for fences!
  • Blooms freely from July to September
  • Attracts bees and other pollinators

Description

  • 'Indian Summer' is a truly glorious climber, producing masses of bugle-shaped, apricot-orange flowers blooming from summer into autumn
  • This vigorous, deciduous plant has rich green compound leaves, with each leaf typically consisting of 9 leaflets
  • Make this climber the star of your south-facing garden by training it up a trellis, obelisk, archway or wall
  • Versatile and easy to grow, this plant also has the benefit of attracting pollinators to your garden!
  • Extremely free flowering, 'Indian Summer' produces blooms in concentrated clusters across the plant
  • Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

How To Grow

Excellent pest and disease resistance

'Indian Summer' is generally pest and disease free, though it can be affected by aphids. These can be removed by hand and the affected area sprayed with soapy water.

Water well at first

Water frequently when your plant is newly planted and getting established. After that, water during dry spells and avoid the soil drying out. 'Indian Summer' has good drought tolerance when established.

Full sun

Plant where the vine will receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.

Any moist, well-drained soil

Mix in plenty of organic matter (e.g. garden compost) into the soil pre-planting and more every spring. If your soil is particularly heavy and becomes easily waterlogged, then add some perlite or course grit to the soil to improve drainage.

No feeding required

There's usually no need to feed, but it can be helpful to dig in plenty of well rotted compost or manure when planting.
