- Deepest green, tinged with purple and curled - this Italian variety has to be the chef's kiss of kale
- Packed with vitamins A, C and K, kale is perfect for curry, salad, pasta dishes, kale crisps, supergreen smoothies and juices

Good pest and disease resistance
Kale can be affected by pigeons, butterflies, mice or caterpillars. The best defence against all of these is covering your plants in a fine mesh or horticultural fleece, or planting alongside onions and garlic to deter them. You can also use a brassica collar to keep off cabbage whitefly.
Water well
Keep the soil consistently moist rather than allowing it to dry out. During dry spells, water well, once or twice a week.
Full sun
Plant in a sunny spot where the plants will receive 6-8 hours of sunlight per day.
Any fertile, well-draining soil
Thrives in any well-drained soil. If your soil is particularly clay-heavy and/or often becomes waterlogged then you can improve the drainage by adding in plenty of organic matter such as garden compost as well as some perlite or gravel.
